I am trained in equity-informed mediation (certification from Resolutions Northwest), which is a compassionate and structured process to explore community, family, and organization conflicts where mediators apply an equity framework to offer support to all parties. Because conflict is part of larger social and institutional influences, we approach it ready to engage in discussions of race and social justice.

The Mediation Process

The way I support conflict differs for each case, but in general the process I follow is:

  1. Intake Calls - This is an opportunity for me to directly and individually connect with all of the people involved. I will gather detailed information about the conflict from each party’s perspective during these calls.

  2. Mediation - Consent is gathered from all parties and a mediation is scheduled and facilitated. Depending on the complexity of the conflict and the number of people involved, this may last over several mediation sessions.

  3. Follow-Up - A check-in is conducted to see if the case was resolved or if coaching is needed.
